Director of Conservation and Rewilding
Contract: Full time, permanent
Location: Based at either of our Kent or Devon parks, the role will require the management of projects across both sites and across the country
Reports to: Director General
Responsible for: The conservation team and its volunteers, currently totalling five direct reports
Grade: Grade 1
Job Purpose
Developing, leading and delivering Wildwood’s Conservation programmes and overseeing the development of our existing research projects and academic partnerships with other NGOs and academia. This is an exciting position, with a huge potential to develop new projects that help protect wildlife and habitats across the UK and experience the genuine and tangible impact of the Trust’s work.
Key Responsibilities
The Working Week
Your working week will be varied and busy, with no two days the same. You will need to oversee your team, carrying out formal and informal supervisions with your direct reports, chair meetings with both internal and external stakeholders, nurture existing partnerships and cultivate future opportunities, contribute to director meetings and operational discussions, liaise with communications and press teams, write reports, grant funding applications and input into the animal charities commission report. Practical hands-on conservation work will be required during busy periods.
Core working hours are 09:00 to 17:00 with an unpaid half an hour for lunch. This post is 37.5 hours per week over 5 days (usually Monday to Friday). The job will include some evening, weekend and bank holiday working as part of your normal duties. You will be required to travel between Wildwood parks and collaborative projects both in the UK and abroad.
Animal work frequently requires individuals to work outside of normal working hours if, for example, specific levels of care are required. Therefore, a flexible approach in terms of working hours is required.
